In the role of Cultural Resource Specialist I, we'll count on you to:

The primary duty of the Cultural Resource Specialist 1 is to support clients with cultural resource management compliance activities for a variety of development projects in Alaska. The successful candidate will support clients with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and Alaska Historic Preservation Act compliance and coordination activities. This may include archaeological fieldwork, permit preparation, research, and reporting writing,

Candidates should be familiar with Section 106, the Alaska State Historic Preservation Act, field planning, execution and documentation of field activities, preparation of state and federal land access permits, and QC review and interpretation of field data. Candidates must be available for fieldwork and travel throughout Alaska.

The successful candidate may work independently and assist senior scientists on larger projects. The candidate must demonstrate commitment to data confidentiality agreements and professional ethics standards.

It is expected for the successful candidate to have excellent and proven writing and communication skills. The candidate will be expected to work both independently and as part of a team. The candidate will also work under varied weather conditions and participate in rural and urban field efforts with small and large teams.

This is a full-time position located in Anchorage, Alaska.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior field experience preferred (e.g., survey, testing, and data recovery).
  • Previous Alaska-based archaeological fieldwork experience.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, Architectural History or closely related field
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Self-starter with excellent writing and communication skills
  • Willingness to work under varied weather conditions
  • Successful candidates must be familiar with field study design and documentation, regulatory framework for cultural resource management, and GIS utilities
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
