ASM Global Camp Counselor - Morgan Park Sports Center in Chicago, Illinois

Job Title: Camp Counselor – Part Time, Seasonal

Reports To: Wellness Coordinator

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Location: Morgan Park Sports Center; 11505 S. Western Avenue, Chicago IL, 60643.

Summary: With passion and dedication to excellence, the MPSC Camp Counselor will create a friendly, fun, and open environment while ensuring all safety procedures and protocols for children of all ages. A camp counselor will supervise, educate, and lead children of all ages through different outdoor and indoor recreational activities at camp.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leads indoor and outdoor recreational and educational activities gearing them to the needs of various age groups

  • Assists in all activities, maintains a positive and inclusive approach with all assigned participants

  • Plans and assists in the daily preparation for the camp day; sets up a takes down equipment before and after summer camp activities occur

  • Addresses behavioral issues when needed

  • Facilitates and encourages participation in camp activates

  • Knows and understands all emergency procedures associated with the camp program

  • Communicates clearly and effectively in written and verbal methods with supervisor, parents, and children

  • Informs supervisor when in need of any equipment and/or resources for activities

  • Ensures all safety procedures and protocols are being followed by all summer camp participants

  • Assists in maintaining accurate program records, including incident reports, logbook documentation, and daily attendance; attends camp counselor meetings when required

  • Supervises campers and ensures their safety, development, growth, skill achievement, and general well-being

  • Models good behavior for campers as it relates to sportsmanship, manners, and respectfulness

  • Interacts with parents in a professional and polite manner

  • Reports camper and parent complaints to supervisor as required

  • Completes other tasks and duties as assigned

Professional Requirements:

  • Self-motivated, with excellent communication and customer service skills

  • Punctual, reliable, organized, and responsible

  • Keeps management informed of program and facility needs

  • Ensures that safety standards are met, and that department and facility policies are adhered to

  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds

  • General mobility including but not limited to walking, kneeling, and standing for long period of times

Schedule:

  • Camp Counselors are expected to work Monday through Friday from 8:30AM – 3:30PM.

  • This role is seasonal and expected to work from June 10th, 2024 to August 18th, 2024.

  • All camp counselors will be required to attend training before camp starts.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, sit for long hours and work with various types of fitness equipment. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, and occasionally must aide or assist participants. The employee must have the endurance to complete the instruction of the assigned fitness program.
