Star Leasing Company Staff Accountant in Dublin, Ohio

Job Title: Staff Accountant

Department: Accounting/Finance

FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports To: Accounting Manager

Job Summary:

The Staff Accountant assists in preparing monthly financial statements and related reports, provide information for sales/use and property tax return filings, and performs analysis regarding the company's accounting records.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Communicate, model, and monitor compliance with Star's Core Values and policies and incorporate them into performance plans, coaching and corrective action

  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes

  • Assist with reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, bank accounts and credit card statements

  • Assist with reconciliation of inventory and fixed assets

  • Assist with preparation and reconciliation of multi-state sales, fuel, and excise tax returns

  • Assist in preparation of monthly financial statements and supporting schedules for multiple branch locations

  • Reviewing the preliminary financial statements with managers and identifying any required adjustments

  • Maintain accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with regulations

  • Preparation and posting journal entries to the General Ledger

  • Supporting company personnel in obtaining and interpreting information from our ERP system

  • Provide support to corporate officers, administrative managers, and operations managers as needed

  • Maintain knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA is desirable but not required

  • 1-2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Proficiency in using financial software systems and/or ERP and Microsoft Office Suite

  • Strong technical, analytical, critical thinking, problem solving, time management, organization and communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and within a team, comfortable in a dynamic and fast paced environment with ability to meet deadlines

  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail

  • Ability to analyze, read, and interpret common business and legal documents

  • Experience with Avalara, Sale/Use Tax and fixed asset management desirable but not required
