We are the Microsoft Store team, part of the Microsoft AI engineering organization. Our goal is to use advanced analytics & data science to inform decision making, drive product performance and maximize business impact through the power of ML/AI. We are looking for a strong, senior Software Engineer who is passionate about data and can help us power and foster a data-driven culture here in the Microsoft Store team!  

Our team’s vision is for Store to be the preferred place to discover and acquire high quality apps and games which users need most; and for Developers & ISVs (Independent Software Vendors) to be excited to build Windows apps and games because they can innovate, differentiate, and exceed their business goals on Windows. You will be a member of a new and growing team that builds high scale, secure, reliable, low latency Cloud services that power the Microsoft App Store experience that runs on 1.5 billion Windows devices worldwide!   

We're looking for an enthusiastic and expert Data Scientist to help us build and deliver business Intelligence through data for experiences running on 1.5 billion Windows devices. Your responsibilities will include working closely with a variety of teams such as Engineering, Program Management, Design and application partners to understand the key business questions for customer-facing scenarios, to set up the key performance indicators, and setup data pipelines to identify insights and experiment ideas that moves our business metrics.  We will be looking to you to help evaluate the return of investments on new ideas, to assess if investments are meeting customer and business promises, to design and assess experiments, to measure growth and to derive insights that help identify next wave of opportunities and problems to be solved.  

Responsibilities

As an expert in data science, you will take on the most complex problems and guide the rest of the team in their efforts, helping them formulate approaches to solve challenging problems and discover new opportunities using well-defined algorithms and data sources in context of customer, engineering, and business needs. You will build predictive models and conduct experiments to gain insights into quality, health of products and customer usage. You will engage with peers to produce clear, compelling, and actionable insights that influence product and service improvements; crafting the experience millions of customers have with Windows. You will also engage in the peer review process and act on feedback while learning innovative methods, algorithms, and tools to increase the impact and applicability of your results.  Through your analysis and research, you will curate and maintain Key Performance Indicators which show trends towards achieving a business goal.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in data science, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering or another quant-focused field 

  • 8+ years of experience with Data Science and Analytics 

  • Experience with EDA, Inference analysis, Predictive analysis (Regression, Classification etc.,) and forecasting. 

  • Experience with Big Data technologies like Spark, Hadoop or other open- source technologies or SCOPE/COSMOS or U-SQL/ADL  

  • Experience in one or more programming languages, preferably C#, Python or Java. 

  • A desire to mentor others and stay current with advances in the industry. 

  • Demonstrated partnership, collaboration, and interpersonal skills 

  • Experience with Experiment Design and analysis. 

  • Ability to thrive in "startup" environment, deal with ambiguity and drive clarity. 

  • A proven track record of demonstrated leadership in complex areas, through critical thinking, thought leadership, technical skills and relentless drive for progress. 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to "tell compelling stories" through data.
