Participant will work in key areas designated by the HSC COO and will work side-by-side with the designated Director or COO on a daily basis. Areas of training consist of all aspects of the HIM operational processes including but not limited to, incomplete record management, HIM transcription, release of information (ROI), record retrieval and reconciliation, pulling, filing and retrieval of paper medical records, tumor registry, trauma registry, unbilled reporting, and birth certificates as applicable.

The individuals selected for the HIM Director in Training position will complete field training assignments preparing them to function competently as a Director in the Parallon HSC (Health Information Service Center) organization. Training will focus on enhancing participants’ management and technical skills. Field training will ensure participants are knowledgeable in all aspects of the hospital HIM departments and display competency in specialized aspects of the position such as HIM operations, and HIPAA compliance.

The participants must display competency in specialized aspects of the position such as front office activities, HIPAA/Privacy, analysis, EMPI, coding, general management and communications and any other identified areas. Participant will receive on-the-job and Formal Training through the Education Department in addition to hands on training. This will ensure the participants are knowledgeable in all aspects of HIM Shared Services.

During your time in the HIM Director in Training program your duties will include:

  • Providing a high-quality resource of knowledge, skills and work experience to facilities during course of training and fieldwork

  • Satisfactorily completing field training assignments, within a hospital and HSC back office setting, specifically designed to perfect management, analytical, and technical skills.

  • Determining trends in operational performance and identifies process improvement opportunities including but not limited to HIM front office operations, record reconciliation, and unbilled.

  • Demonstrating high level of proficiency and knowledge in front office and back office functions and responsibilities.

  • During the program, participants may serve as interim Director within various facilities and/or functions to further enhance their management and technical skills.

  • Satisfactorily leading or participating and completing special projects as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in, (or working towards the completion of a BA or BS),in Health Informatics, Health Information Management or Health Data Analytics

  • Leadership experience from employment, school or voluntary capacity helpful.

  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) must be obtained within 60 months of employment start date
