Providence Director Clinical Pharmacy -PMMC in Medford, Oregon

The Director of Pharmacy is a professionally competent, legally qualified pharmacist who is thoroughly knowledgeable about and has experience in respective pharmacy practice and management. The Director of Pharmacy assists the Service area pharmacy director and/or Executive Pharmacy Director in providing oversight and comprehensive strategic planning, oversight, design, operation, and improvement of the region's pharmacy services offered.

The Director of Pharmacy is responsible for overseeing all activities and programs of the pharmacy in a manner which helps to optimize patient care.

The Director of Pharmacy is responsible for the procurement, receipt, storage, security, preparation, and/or distribution of medications. The Director also ensures that the pharmacy provides optimal service as it relates to medication administration, meets all legal, regulatory, accreditation, and certification requirements, complies with all applicable policies, procedures, codes and standards of practice and plans, organizes, schedules and directs pharmacy operations and services including budgeting, automated dispensing systems, personnel management, clinical programs, formulary management, contract management & compliance, policy and procedure development and maintenance, quality assurance, Joint Commission or other accreditation compliance and adherence to applicable laws. The Director supervises professional, para-professional, and/or support staff; and performs other duties as required. The Director demonstrates proficiency in delivering care to assigned age-specific patient population (e.g., infants, adolescents, adults, geriatrics, pediatrics), and participates in related continuing education.

Position includes frequent contact and collaboration with physician, nurses, vendors and other health care professionals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Ensures that PSJH mission and core values are at the forefront of all activities. Provides leadership for the designated team to promote and maintain high employee morale, engagement, and commitment to the organization during times of both stability and great change in healthcare. Helps support unity and change management through clear communication and performance.

  • Accountability for their assigned ministry's all human resource management aspects, financial sustainability, regulatory compliance, all operational & clinical programs/activities, medication safety and quality programs.

  • Through a well-defined pharmacy management structure and operating governance frame-work, accountable for executing strategies, tactics and all initiatives for pharmacy services (operational, clinical and product level services) within assigned ministry (s) . Under the guidance of the service area director or executive director of pharmacy, collaborates with other directors, shared services, system shared services leaders & other leaders to ensure consistency & alignment in overall practice

  • Selects, trains/orients and assigns department staff. Responsible for all aspects of performance management of the respective pharmacy caregivers. Maintains effective communication with staff through staff meetings and other means of communication. In collaboration with the respective ministry leadership & pharmacy leadership, sets yearly pharmacy performance goals and objectives, ministry budgets, programs offered, technology & resources planning and development.

  • Maintains close coordination, and relationships with all departments & key individuals to assure continuity and collaboration of services throughout their ministry. Participates in system, divisional, regional and ministry committees/councils/workgroups as needed to effectively achieve position goals that support the organization.

  • Works closely with Providers, Nursing Administration, Quality Management and others to ensure efficient and safe medication use process throughout the ministry

  • Lead a highly effective and accountable team of leaders within their service area ministries with emphasis communication, accountability, leadership effectiveness and ensuring employee & patient satisfaction and engagement.

  • Where applicable, performs other ministry pharmacy leadership duties including but not limited to being the PIC.

  • Performs any other related duties as requested by the Service area Pharmacy Director,

  • Division Pharmacy Director, Chief Executive, Chief Executive Officer and/or Chief Operating Officer, or other regional or system pharmacy leaders.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree from Accredited college of Pharmacy or PharmD (Pharmacy) or equivalent education/experience

  • Master's Degree (MPH; MBA); or equivalent educ/experience (preferred)

  • Upon hire: Oregon Pharmacist License (Vendor Managed)

  • 3 years of pharmacy experience in applicable area

  • 2 years of management experience

  • Personal values and ethics which are consistent with those of Providence St. Joseph Health

  • Understanding of pharmacy operations of pharmacy services

  • Demonstrated skills in clear communication, team building, problem solving, sound decision-making, innovation and effective change management

  • Demonstrated abilities to develop and implement contemporary clinical and operational pharmacy services

  • Current knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards

  • Thorough understanding of the 340B program requirements (where applicable)
