Amazon Software Development Manager, Amazon Photos - Desktop in Mexico City, Mexico

Amazon Photos helps consumers preserve and re-live their memories. The service comes with unlimited photo storage for Prime members and apps are available on iOS, Android, Web, Desktop, Fire Tablet & Fire TV. The service is also integrated into Alexa devices such as Echo Show and Echo Spot. Amazon Photos is the latest digital offering to consumers released on the heels of the Amazon Music and Amazon Video offerings. We have ambitious goals to scale growth and adoption of the service around the world and delight our customers with a great product.

What you will do: You will build & manage a team of software engineers that builds solutions for the Amazon Photos Desktop application. In this role, you’ll manage a team that is strong on Ownership and Customer Obsession. You'll ensure that the best engineering practices are followed and that our software is of the highest quality. You will partner with product management to help define & develop a roadmap of a customer delighting features, and then deliver those features. You will work closely with other teams throughout Amazon to design and architect solutions that will scale to millions of customers.

What we are looking for: You are an experienced Software Development Manager who has a track record of building a team and shipping great customer-facing software solutions. You are comfortable with ambiguity. You can work with partners, program managers, and product managers to develop and deliver strategic roadmaps. You are familiar with full-stack development: building front end applications, services that back them, and have good judgement on what makes an excellent user experience. You are a skilled agile practitioner, keeping your team on track to deliver. You look for ways to align the technology with the business.

Key job responsibilities

  • Build, motivate, reward and coach a diverse team of engineers.

  • Prioritize, plan projects and features, manage partners and track external commitments.

  • Drive continual improvements to the efficiency and flexibility of the software while keeping an extremely high bar on customer trust, performance, and availability.

  • Work with Technical Program Managers, Product Managers, and UX Designers while defining and executing your team’s charter.

  • Provide inputs into quarterly and yearly planning.

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

Mexico City, DIF, MEX

Basic Qualifications

  • 1+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 6+ years of engineering experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

  • Advanced writing and spoken English proficiency
