Description

The Student Success and Retention Coordinator serves as the lead person for the coaching initiative. The Coordinator will develop the resources to support student success and retention efforts. Responsibilities will include assigned training and supervision for part time coaching staff members. This role also assists with the development of requested training resources on coaching for advising staff. The Coordinator will support coaching focused programs and assist with overall retention messaging and utilization of the related software.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the coaching initiative and part time coaching staff, including the development of coaching resources and ongoing training for support initiative staff and students seeking coaching services.

  • Support student coaching appointments through referrals, student requests and initiative outreach.

  • Assist with the development of training for staff who advise students to increase the use of coaching methods within the caseload advising model.

  • In collaboration with the Advising department leadership, assist the programming for the advising department that engage students in student success focused topics.

  • In collaboration with the Advising Department leadership, organize and facilitate programming with RCBC staff for specific student interventions or program promotion.

  • In collaboration with the Advising Department leadership, provide reports that highlight the utilization of coaching resources, the training provided, and the impact on student retention and academic performance.

  • Assist with assigned projects focused on student success communication, including the requests for graphics and logistical support.

  • Assist with the creation and implementation of student success area initiatives and projects that enhance the student experience and promote retention efforts.

  • Assist with departmental operations including assigned time with phone call coverage, departmental email support and other program support as requested.

  • Other duties as assigned.

OVERALL PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY:

Minimum Qualifications

Education Required:

Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s Degree preferred in counseling, social work, education or related field

Experience Required:

Minimum of one-year experience working with programs and / or training curriculum focused on student success strategies, within advising, success coaching or related fields

Experience Preferred:

  • Previous or current work with designing content and facilitating trainings to support other peer leaders and / or staff in developing skills for increased effectiveness in advising or coaching sessions

  • Previous or current work with coaching college students or young adults with a focus on goal achievement, overcoming obstacles and developing skills to grow as a student and professional.

  • Experience and/or interest working with individuals from diverse socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds with a focus on accessing college and community resources.

  • Experience and/or interest working with community college students, specifically students needing overall college preparation and / or readiness skills.

  • Experience and/or interest working with technology for organization, communication, assessment, and/or program development.

Skills/Abilities /Knowledge /Other Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively. Preferred experience working collaboratively with academic and student service team members.

  • Strong verbal, presentation, writing, and listening skills

  • Interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to cultivate effective relationships with a wide range of individuals (such as staff, administrators, students, faculty, and family members) and to work cross functionally.

Additional Information

INSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS:

Collaborates with department members and/or the Compliance, Assessment and Research team to support planning, assessment, data collection and reporting for continuous improvement of the college.
