Job Summary and Qualifications

The Standard Terminology Analyst plays a critical role in the advancement of the corporate HIM, Coding and Abstraction department’s strategic, operational, and quality goals. This role will be part of a team responsible for delivery of technology solutions that enhances our ability to develop, maintain and enhance enabling technology. This role will conduct, analyze, evaluate, and advise on HIM, Coding and Abstraction related areas including terminology standards, health information architecture, clinical workflow, clinical efficiencies, business requirements identification and impact, care quality, and patient safety through technology projects of various scopes and complexity. Reporting to the Manager, CDRA Program, day-to-day activities will range from developing, implementing, and managing projects that examine both business processes and technical issues to conducting analyses and evaluations on a quantitative/qualitative basis and the effectiveness of health standards, information architecture programs, and operations.

Duties (included but not limited to):

Technical Work

  • Conduct mapping/matching of medical terms to relevant standards.

  • Conduct, analyze, evaluate, and advise on project/healthcare related areas including terminology standards, health information architecture, clinical workflow, clinical efficiencies, business requirements identification and impact, care quality, and patient safety

  • Conduct analyses and evaluations on a quantitative/qualitative basis and the effectiveness of health standards, information architecture programs, and operations

  • Work with internal data source owners to ensure that we obtain and represent data at the right level to support various use cases

  • Normalize internal vocabularies to standard terminologies and classifications

  • Identify key policy issues and priorities, design analyses, evaluate alternative strategies, and make definitive recommendations to leadership

  • Serve as the main contact for Terminology Standards Consultation requests

  • Provide significant support for high-complexity tasks and make definitive recommendations to leadership

Analysis & Deliverables

  • Facilitates requirements elicitation sessions using various techniques with diverse internal and external stakeholders

  • Translates data and technology requests into business/technical requirements that defines the scope and format of the deliverable

  • Evaluates requirements and estimates time needed to complete deliverable

  • Ensures request information stays up to date to support leadership prioritization

  • Acquires, imports, cleanses, transforms and validates data from the enterprise data warehouse, data stores, department technology platforms, and other sources using SQL or other query language

  • Creates written communication materials that effectively summarize findings and support recommendations

  • Communicates routinely to Manager on any significant issues, status of projects, barriers and successes

  • Navigates between competing priorities, perspectives, and needs from business partners – guides stakeholders towards the best “collective outcome”

Collaboration

  • Responsible for collaborating with teams, communicating with stakeholders, and providing subject matter expertise in a fast paced environment

  • Completes technology projects in collaboration with HIM, Coding & Abstraction department team members, IT Data Team, IT Application Team and other various roles to evaluate outcomes across enterprise

  • Engages stakeholders to resolve issues with data mapping, or to coordinate changes application configurations

Maintenance

  • Assists in administration data mapping tools, sites, adhering to content publishing standards set forth by established governance bodies

  • Handles and maintains confidential data sources

  • Performs ongoing monitoring and refinement of data and data mapping, as assigned

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree in analytics, business analytics, statistics, computer science or related field required • Master’s degree in the above preferred

EXPERIENCE

  • 3 years of demonstrated work as Clinical Informaticist, Terminologist or comparable

  • 3 years of reporting and data analysis experience required

  • Experience with data mapping tools (i.e., Symedical) a plus

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency required

  • Analysis of healthcare related data preferred

  • Experience working with enterprise-sized (very, very large) data sets a plus

  • Management experience not a requirement
