Mid Level Substation Design Engineer
Job Summary
POWER Engineers is currently seeking an Electrical Engineer in the San Antonio, TX area to work as a Substation Design Engineer in the Power Delivery Substation Department of our San Antonio, TX office. Flexibility is available for a hybrid work environment (employee will need to live within driving distance of the office).
Roles and Responsibilities
Perform and direct others in the detailed design of medium to extra high voltage utility substations including, but not limited to:
One-line diagrams
Schematics
Wiring diagrams
SCADA
Communications
Station physical layouts
Sections/Elevations
Cable and conduit plans and details
Ground grid design and details
Foundation plans and details
Structural plans and details
Control enclosure design and details
Lightning protection plans
Yard lighting plans
Construction cost estimates and contracts
Bill of Materials
Project scheduling and coordination
Site visits
Support QA/QC for deliverables to clients.
Occasional travel will be required.
Required Education/Experience
Ability to function as a Mid Level Substation Design Engineer with the San Antonio location of our Substation Business Unit.
BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering) or BSEET (BS Electrical Engineering Technology) degree, from an accredited university preferably with a power option.
Experience in 15kV through 500kV substation design and IEEE/ANSI standards.
Experience in managing small project teams.
Experience filling the role of substation design engineer for several projects occurring concurrently.
Engineer in Training (EIT) registration.
The candidate must have strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.
Desired Education/Experience
Five (5) or more years experience in utility substation design as outlined above.
Professional Engineering license (PE) strongly preferred, or ability to sit for the exam within 6 months.
Managerial and leadership skills a plus.
