Entergy’s Power Generation group operates a fleet of more than 30 owned, leased, or operated natural gas, coal, oil, hydro, solar and petroleum coke plants, with a total engineering capacity exceeding 20,000 megawatts. Entergy continues to build or acquire megawatts from new hydrogen capable natural gas units, solar, wind and other technologies to complement its existing megawatts of nuclear, natural gas, coal, oil, hydroelectric, and solar facilities.

* This position will be filled as a Maintenance Operator, Maintenance Operator 1, 2, 3, 4, or Journeyman Maintenance Operator based up on the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate. *

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:

Member of a rotating shift working under the direction of a Plant Supervisor. Responsible for performing operating functions which includes monitoring and operating power plant equipment, is knowledgeable in power plant systems, starting and stopping equipment, isolating and safety tagging equipment for maintenance activities, and monitoring water chemistry. Responsible for performing routine operator rounds and performing lubrication to plant rotating equipment as required. Is familiar with plant environmental procedures and ensure units operate within specifications. Operate and maintain units while maintaining a high level of Safety, Reliability, Efficiency and cost. Work through Operational Skills Development Plan to gain specific knowledge of plant equipment and progress through Maintenance Operator levels up to Operations Technician.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Place in-service, or remove from service, and operate in a safe manner, turbine, generator and boiler systems and related auxiliary equipment such as fuel facilities, valves, traps, regulators, desuperheaters, heaters, cooling towers, heat exchangers, and related piping systems containing water, steam, air, and other fluids or gases, station service electric circuits, oil circuit breakers, air circuit breakers, disconnecting switches, transformers, storage batteries, motor generator sets, indicating and recording instruments, etc., install and maintain simple mechanical measuring devices and control equipment such as pressure gauges, thermometers, thermocouples, instrument piping and simple regulating and control devices, install and maintain simple electric circuits in conduit or open wiring, lighting fixtures, motors and other electrical auxiliaries, install and maintain simple mechanical equipment, such as small piping layouts, valves, fuel pumps, small centrifugal pumps, steam traps, heat exchange apparatus, building fixtures, tanks, air removal equipment, ejectors, etc.

  • Check functioning of governors and controls, perform simple operations in connection with general test work on boilers, turbines, pumps, condensers, heat exchange equipment, cooling towers, piping, draft equipment, instruments and controls and other related mechanical equipment, clean and inspect motors including check of clearances and insulation resistance and change of oil as required. perform simple operations in connection with general maintenance work on boilers, turbines, pumps, condensers, heat exchange equipment, cooling towers, piping, draft equipment, buildings, and other related mechanical equipment.

  • Check bearing temperatures and equipment for proper operation, perform simple operations requiring some precision with hand bench and power tools.

  • Test electrical circuits and equipment for insulation resistance, perform simple operations requiring little precision, with machine tools such as drill presses, pipe and bolt threading machines, band saws, punch or shears, etc.

  • Check and adjust running clearances on main turbine, analyze flue gas samples and perform routine tests on instruments and controls, renew lamps, fuses, sockets, etc., perform routine tasks such as packing valves and pumps. Replace gauge glasses, cut gaskets, reseat valves, form simple tools, fabricate metal parts, etc.

  • Change over fuels, diagnose and correct minor electric trouble of secondary equipment not involving continuity of service, diagnose and correct minor mechanical trouble of secondary equipment not involving continuity of service.

  • Maintain proper combustion, assist in laboratory work as directed, make routine test and inspections of storage batteries, inspect and maintain fire-fighting apparatus.

  • Operate the control room under emergency conditions.

  • Prepare records and reports.

  • Perform necessary housekeeping.

  • Performs preventative maintenance activities which include simple electrical, instrument and mechanical work/inspection and repair.

  • Work overtime at times when shift coverage is required due to unexpected circumstances.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Education:

  • High school diploma.

  • Preferred:

  • Process Technology, Instrumentation and Controls, or Electronics college degree or equivalent work experience.

Minimum Experience:

  • 0 - 2 years of experience in Operations or similar field.

  • Entry level with a background in Process Technology/Instrumentation.

  • Preferred:

  • Equipment Operation experience.

  • Power Plant and/or Maintenance experience.

  • Mechanic and millwright experience.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the elementary principles of mechanical measuring devices, instruments, controls, and regulating devices as used in steam electric plants.

  • Knowledge of the principles of operation and function of steam boilers, turbo-generators, pumps, heaters, steam traps, piping systems, pressure and level regulators and their controls, and auxiliary systems.

  • Knowledgeable in and complies to environmental rules and regulations.

  • Knowledgeable in and follows safety policies, practices and procedures.

Any Certificates, Licenses, etc.:

  • Successful completion of the EEI POSS/MASS test.
